Steve Myk
He started violin lessons at age 14 and played his first wedding at the age of 15. Musicians such as King Gannam, Don Messer, and Andy Desjarlis and every Saturday evening influenced him and weekdays Steve played along with the artists while listening to the radio station CKDM in Dauphin, MB.
In 1957, Steve met Tommy Buick who was touring with CKRC Red River Valley Boys and was most really influenced by his style. On several occasion throughout the years Steve and Tommy filled in for each other and played twin fiddles when the busy schedules would allow, exchanging ideas. Tommy was Steve’s long time musician friend and has left a missing link in the music circle. This recording is a tribute, with “Thank you Tommy!” for your influence and may your music you left behind continue to bring back memories as well as live on for future musicians.
Steve currently plays Fiddle with the Ukrainian Oldtimers |
