John Dietrich was born and raised in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and started his professional career playing lead guitar with a well known rock band where they performed thru out Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario and developed a local following.

John’s career has been a winding path with many interesting turns. In 1979 John was honored to be part of a book called “Reflections Yesterday & today” put out by the Manitoba Metis federation. He also hosted a television show on cable TV called “Prairie Music” which ran for two years. John started recording an album in 1984 called “The Hardest Things I’ll Ever Do “. A single off the album titled “I am still loving you “ got national airplay. It also got john a nomination for the best male vocalist at the MCMA in Winnipeg. After “I Am Still Loving You” John released a second single, a Shannon two feathers number called “Daddy doesn’t live there anymore”.

John has done several shows with Ray St. Germain, including a TV show called “Rhythm of the Métis” (national). John has had the privilege of performing a being master of ceremonies of several Métis gala events.

Most recent john and the silver dollar band opened for Jason McCoy at the portage potato festival. The future is exciting for this troubadour as his dreams now start to unfold.
